Sky Bet EFL talking points: Swansea flying high in Championship, more misery for Stoke and hope for Bolton

The two from the Championship did fulfill in Elland Road on Saturday, although five matches was too early to call this type of marketing battle.
Leeds were expected to be there or thereabouts this year, but Swansea were somewhat more of a surprise bundle so far. They had 13 points but it was the Swans who stopped clear at the top of the table the day because of Wayne Routledge’s late goal to secure a win.
Leeds may have dominated ownership and the number of shots (21 to seven), but it had been telling they’d three on goal to Swansea’s two. For Steve Cooper, it has been a fantasy start.
„It’s is the perfect outcome, a clean sheet away from your home along with scoring you,“ he said. „This is a fantastic return. I am not going to be booked, but there are 40 games left.
„I feel like we have played 30 already! Obviously, it is a great beginning. A fantastic tally up to now, no doubt about that. However, we must keep going, keep working and prepare for the next match.“
However, if Swansea have been a bit of a surprise package, well then what does this say about Charlton?
At Reading on Saturday to proceed above Leeds and to instant tipped as favourites for relegation in pre-season, Lee Bowyers’s side won 2-0. They’ve picked up 14 points from their games so far.
The most remarkable thing however, is the way he quickly turned them into an unit and has cobbled it together. Five of the starting 11 from the match on Saturday only combined in the summer, and four of those are loanees who came in August.
„They’re fearless,“ said Bowyer. „They’re in that place right now and they are in this zone where they believe that they’re going to win every game, and that I make them believe that they can win each game.“
There is no surprises, then, that Bowyer has been linked with the managerial vacancy at Huddersfield. With having picked up a single point so far this season they remain suspended in the base of the table.
Huddersfield sacked their manager Jan Siewert without any sort of strategy after just three matches to replace himlosing three because. At Luton they took the lead on Saturday, but ended with a 2-1 undo.
Of bigger concern is going to function as the lack of target threat this season and eight of their 15 league goals in 2019. Nobody else has scored more at the moment than a lone goal for Huddersfield. Grant has to be wondering whether departing Charlton in January was a fantastic idea in the end.
Then there is Stoke, who took the lead on Saturday at Birmingham, but had been hit by two goals in 3 second-half moments to in St Andrew’s. The winner came from 16-year-old Jude Bellingham, scoring his first goal for the club.
„We’ve got to modify our luckwe were the better side until we scored, we struck the post and we seemed to get rid of all control of this game,“ said beleaguered boss Nathan Jones. „Aside from Preston and Leeds we have likely been the better side in every game but we have got no points for it.
„The chairman will observe the exact same as me since he’s an educated guy but you can not continue like that – you can’t continue losing games. We have to modify the momentum. But what’s about for us at the moment and that’s the frustrating thing.“
It’s not frequently a thrashing at a row could be greeted with such a response that is warm by a bunch of lovers, but 750 Bolton supporters made the long trip to Gillingham just to celebrate the fact they still have a club to encourage.
In the first game since the takeover that saved them from oblivion, without a goal and the young side of Bolton were routed again to be abandoned bottom of this Sky Bet League One table on minus 11 points, conceding 17.
But things are looking up. There was A new director appointed at Keith Hill on Saturday and they’re hoping to make a raft of new signings on Deadline Day. There is hope on the horizon although they are highly unlikely to stay up this season. What Bury fans would offer for some of that.
„The history books may demonstrate a 5-0 win for Gillingham, however any Bolton Wanderers fan in attendance will probably realise that the insignificance of the score line when compared to the bigger picture,“ Bolton fan and blogger Tom Jenkins told Sky Sports.
„There was a real atmosphere of positivity among the travelling fans who were both relieved and thrilled to be able to watch their team play a game of football, something we did not think would be possible before in this week. Something that isn’t possible for fans of Bury. There are more instances ahead both on and off the pitch and also despite all the uncertainty, the future is now looking a lot, lot brighter for Wanderers.“
Brian substituted Hill as caretaker manager last time to save Rochdale but he made a massive impression to be given.
Now, the club seem to be making strides under himat least in a fashion sense. The very first goal in their 3-0 win at Southend on Saturday included of 16 passes from the buildup, and it was not a one-off . It’s the third time that one of their goals has comprised at least 10 passes, while no other team in League One has done more than once.
Barry-Murphy was left praising their“amazing“ assaulting play that got them a second win of the season. They sit 10th in the table and also are off pushing for advertising, however obscurity are a great look following campaigns of fighting the drop.
Scunthorpe had the chance to climb away from the base of the Football League on Saturday because they hosted Carlisle – another side who had suffered a poor start to the season – however a second defeat left them on just a single point so far.
Paul Hurst was the man who was designed to reconstruct them following their relegation from League One, but it has never worked out at yet. His time in Scunthorpe and Ipswich means he’s won only one of his final 20 matches in charge. It’s starting to attract him down.
„It’s extremely frustrating that yet again I’m talking about a defeat,“ he explained. „I feel as though I’ve done something wrong somewhere – if it is in a previous life or that one. Apart from getting on the scoresheet, which is the most significant part true, the players place a great deal in and couldn’t have done more.
„I really don’t think we’ll dominate a game like that again all season in terms of nullifying the opposition and producing the odds that we did ourselves. Nonetheless, it’s not quite happening for us at the present time and we are left scratching our heads in what we can do in order to try and alter that.“
