Lewis Hamilton says title chase stopped Charles Leclerc collision

Lewis Hamilton says that he would not have backed from his scrap with Charles Leclerc in the GP and the group“could have collided“ – if he was not chasing a sixth Formula 1 name.
Hamilton was hunting down race-winner Leclerc for much and the couple went wheel-to-wheel approaching the second chicane, but the Mercedes driver was squeezed off the trail and had to cut to avoid contact.
Hamilton queries Leclerc judgment
FIA describe Leclerc’yellow card‘
A crash would probably have destroyed both motorists‘ races, and Mercedes boss Toto Wolff claimed that Hamilton“was instrumental rather than making it an episode“.
But asked if he’d have done anything differently if the F1 2019 championship was resolved, Hamilton confessed:“I wouldn’t have moved. We’d have collided.“
Hamilton is 63 points using seven races ahead of Valtteri Bottas remaining as he seems to become only the second driver in history with six shingles.
„The driver which goes for the Drivers‘ Championship stored Charles and rescued himself“ added Wolff, who sensed Leclerc’s movements were“maybe on the line“.
„Lewis understood exactly what he was doing, he didn’t lose any pieces or parts in that episode, but he would have equally decided,’I’m not going to let this happen‘, and set the 2 cars outside.“
Hamilton looking forward to conflicts that are Leclerc
Hamilton contested the stewards‘ decision not to inflict a harsher penalty on Leclerc and labelled the driving „reckless“ on staff radio – but insisted he had no issue with“one of the most respectful drivers“ at Leclerc.
„There is not any absence of admiration,“ Hamilton told reporters. „We do not have a issue, we are not in a fight, I congratulated him when he got out of the automobile.
„Charles is one of the most respectful motorists. This is actually the very first time I have gone and with a new driver, you understand how they place your car next time and possibly approach situations that are different. Perhaps I will do a better job next time.“
Hamilton continued:“There is zero problem with ushe did an outstanding job and I don’t have any problem with this, it is what it really is.
„I haven’t spoken to him and we do not have a issue but if we receive an instant together we may chat, only reverse functions and make certain he is cool that if I am able and that occurs and that’s cool and that is how we’re racing.
„From what I understand going into the race you are supposed to leave a gap, I do not know whether that’s how it is. However, it’s good that we are able to race and today proved to be.
„We will continue to race and I am looking forward to many more races “
Hamilton happy to’race like that‘
Leclerc was given the black flag by race stewards, F1’s version of a’yellow card‘, and Wolff said he believes that rule will create contact between the drivers“common practice“.
However when it came to penalties and rules while Hamilton called for greater consistency, he said he is pleased to race.
„If that is how we are permitted to race then I shall race like this,“ he said. „As long as we understand that you are allowed not to leave a car width as an example, as long as you are not contradicting us and there’s a crystal very clear message.
„So you are allowed to run broad even if someone is there and you simply get a warning sign, and you only need that once to potentially maintain the man behind you.
„As long as it is apparent that that’s how moving forward it is ok so I know how to enter battle and it’s the same for all of the drivers.“
