Russias Artur Beterbiev and a 10th-round stoppage of Oleksandr Gvozdyk merged the light heavyweight division at Philadelphia.
The 34-year-old knocked his opponent down three times at the round until the contest was ceased by referee Gary Rosato .
Beterbiev defended his International Boxing Federation crown and also captured Gvozdyks World Boxing Council belt.
It was the very first world title bout because fighter Patrick Day died on Wednesday.
After being knocked out by Charles Conwell in Chicago last weekend, american welterweight Day, that suffered a brain injury, was honoured with a 10-bell salute before the event.
Beterbiev, that rents in Montreal, Canada, today has 15 wins from 15 professional struggles after defeating his previously unbeaten rival in the Liacouras Center.
His next fight will be a defence the Meng Fanlong of China, against another fighter.
Promoter Bob Arum Would like to hold that fight early next year in China around the time of this Chinese New Year.
