Italian GP: Drivers, pundits, bosses on Monza’s bizarre qualifying finish

How the paddock reacted to one of their most extraordinary – and – eccentric – endings to your Formula 1 qualifying session in memory…
Martin Brundle:“That is one of the strangest things I have ever found in F1.“
Karun Chandhok:“It was extraordinary. Shambolic and eccentric, I’ve never noticed anything like it.“
Nico Rosberg:“You’re not allowed to do so, but they were doing it. They are all bang !“
Paul Di Resta:“I looks silly once you’ve got professional teams with all this tech and everyone overlooks.“
Anthony Davidson:“You put more drag onto the automobiles, like this year, you get a better slipstream. By simply tweaking the cars, you get that recipe. The straights are much more important.“
Nico Hulkenberg:“We’re all searching for a tow because in case you’d like to do the ultimate fastest lap time that is what you need about this. It has so strong and so much lap time. When you push on your own you just lose on the straights and also you can not make up that period in the corners. Therefore we ended up with these conditions. Of course it was a bit weird and strange for sure.“
Carlos Sainz: Together with these draggier cars this season the tow is worth half a second and everybody wants that half an instant.“
Daniel Ricciardo: Everybody has been simply trying to have a bit too smart and it just encouraged everybody to create a mess.“
Lewis Hamilton:“The tow is vital to having a good lap here and everybody was slowing down, along with blocking the way you couldn’t get through. It was dangerous, I nearly crashed a few times.
„I couldn’t overtake anybody, there was weaving and braking, and it had been like attempting to avoid carnage all of the time.
Lance Stroll:“It was a tiny comedy show out there in Q3. The time was just underestimated by everyone into the flag. I was at the front of the queue and Nico had been enjoying games, he cut the chicane attempting to get me out ahead, and that I was not buying it. So I had been taking my time, waiting to get back on the right course. Then later other cars began overtaking me and it only became a mess.“
Charles Leclerc:“I sort of expected it because clearly it has turned into a mess from the start of the weekend, however, especially from Q1 to Q3. I didn’t hope to find myself in a situation such as the exit of Flip at which the Renault and McLaren was obstructing completely the street and nobody could pass.“
Christian Horner:“The Renault that went directly on all caused each of the difficulties. Of course, nobody would like to be at the front of the queue and it’s obvious he went straight-on on goal. Then it ends up within a cluster situation.“
Toto Wolff:“The issue is that everybody is hoping to have the slipstream and it’s a nerve match, who leaves. Then some who’ve exited first believed thought they need to reduce the rate even more, going through the chicane and outside of the track is simply junior class.“
Cyril Abiteboul:“Everybody is talking about the fact the gap ought to be quite low, but when that actually happens everyone is attempting to take advantage of every single detail.“
