England’s players may embrace and revel in the Rugby World Cup in Japan much more than the high-pressured environment of four decades back, states prop Joe Marler.
Hosts England didn’t reach the 2015 quarter-finals following an“intense and claustrophobic“ preparation period.
„Home World Cup, it was just entirely unique,“ Marler, 29, said.
„If you look back in it, then it was always bound to be enjoyable, due to the extreme strain of it“
England face Italy at Newcastle on Friday in their fourth and final warm-up match.
Marler added to BBC Radio 5 Live:“You think it will be easier as you are at home, however, it was actually harder.
„You’re in exactly the exact identical location, and there weren’t these experiences we could look forward to when we go away to Japan – a nation with a great deal of different cultural matters to break free from the side of it“
With each player enjoying a compulsory five-week rest following the regular season and England coaching in Italy, boss Eddie Jones has mixed this summer, Concerning preparation.
„There are always going to be comparisons made [with 2015],“ Marler continued.
„The most obvious difference from a players‘ standpoint is that the means by which the camps have been set up along with the version at down-time; the extra days we have had at home and out from camp have left it move a lot faster.
„It has made a enormous difference – but only time will tell. You can only [say for sure] at November or even December [following the World Cup], however, it feels good I’m in a location that is good and as it is and we have appreciated the setup.
„Among the biggest issues I had with an 2015 one was we were stuck in [team resort ] Pennyhill Park for a good nine-week block plus it had been rather extreme and Very claustrophobic.“
Having been engaged in the Junior World Championship in 2009, Marler is one of the few England players and he believes that the squad will enjoy the Far East’s cultural unfamiliarity.
„There will be things out there we can get our teeth in to switch off from rugby, as it’ll be new to the vast majority of the squad,“ he added.
„We can observe a few sumo wrestling along with bits and bobs like this. I’m looking forward for this “
