Former NFL player and Texas Longhorns star Cedric Benson dies in a motorcycle crash

(CNN) — Famed running back Cedric Benson, who soared to stardom as a Texas Longhorn“legend,“ died Saturday night. He was 36 years old.
Austin police said a minivan was hoping to cross a part when it ran right into a bike, CNN affiliate KXAN reported. A girl and both Benson were pronounced dead at the scene.
„Our condolences to the family and friends of former Bears running back Cedric Benson, our 4th general Draft pick in 2005 and manhood of the 2006 NFC Champions staff,“ the Chicago Bears tweeted Sunday.
Hours prior to the crash, Benson published a photo of a motorcycle on Instagram using the caption“My Saturday evening,“surrounded by kisses.
Benson rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his four seasons at Texas and is now the 9th-leading rusher in college football history, together with 5,540 yards.
His 64 career rushing touchdowns are second in school history.
He even won the Doak Walker Award, which is given to the nation’s top running back, when he rushed for 1,834 yards and 19 touchdowns. Benson also got All-American honors in 2004.
„Very sad day with the death of Longhorn Legend Cedric Benson,“ that the University of Texas football team tweeted. „Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and friends and our neighborhood of lettermen. He will be missed“
His college coach, Mack Brown, known as Benson“among our favorites“
„He had been a true soul — among the roughest players we ever coached, maybe not the toughest,“ Brown told reporters Sunday. „I, together with a great deal of Longhorns, are simply crushed.“
Benson played in the NFL.
While playing for three teams, finishing with 6,017 career rushing yards and 32 24, he rushed for more than 1,000 yards three times.
„Cedric has been a nice soccer player for us,“ Cincinnati Bengals President Mike Brown explained. „Our business is deeply saddened by his sudden and tragic passing. The Bengals extend our deepest condolences to Cedric’s family“
Former Bengals running backs coach Jim Anderson said he’s mourning Benson’s death.
„After he bought into our system, he had been just like a blossom. He just triumphed,“ Anderson stated. „He gave us an element we did not have. We had complementary men, however, Cedric gave us a lost component. He had been a good man. He was one of my guys and it hurts. Life is too short“
