Mixed team time trial could feature at Paris 2024 Olympics

A team time trial may be part of this Paris 2024 road cycling programme if the occasion proves popular in this year’s world championships.
The case, trialled in the leagues in Alkmaar this year, makes its own world championships debut on Sunday at Yorkshire with teams.
It follows involves women’s road cycling to have a higher profile and would allow an additional road event in Paris to go next to the street races and time trials.
„The UCI will be interested to find out how this format evolves within the upcoming Olympic phase and are open to using the IOC to present a brand new and innovative format in the existing Road Cycling programme in the Olympic Games,“ a UCI spokesman said on Wednesday.
„Looking ahead, this will fit perfectly with our goal of complete gender parity in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with the purpose that female and male cyclists will love equal quantity of quotas, chords and events.“
The mixed team time trial will probably see three male riders tackle a hilly 14km circuit about Harrogate using the women’s trio setting off when the second male rider crosses the line. Times will be an aggregate of women’s and those men’s riders.
